With immense pride, we share that our students of Shalom Presidency School have secured 1st Prize at the STEAM Conclave 2025 held at Shiv Nadar School. Competing against participants from 15 reputed schools, our Shalomites distinguished themselves through an innovative project - AstroClean AI, a groundbreaking solar sail satellite prototype designed to autonomously identify and collect space debris in Low Earth Orbit.
Harnessing the advanced facilities of the Shalom Ingenium Lab - a dynamic and transformative STEAM learning space envisioned by our Sherpa and Vice Chairman - Mr. Dennis Geroge and coupled with his guidance to our expert faculty, the students engineered AstroClean AI with remarkable precision and purpose. The project integrates AI-driven classification algorithms, enabling the satellite to distinguish between metallic and non- metallic debris in real time. Using computer vision and a trained neural network model, the system commands two mechanical arms, actuated by Arduino-controlled servos, to either attract metallic items using a magnet or scoop non-metallic debris with a net. Notably, the entire prototype was constructed from recyclable and repurposed materials, underscoring our commitment to sustainability and innovation.
