In an age where Artificial Intelligence can generate stunning visuals in seconds, we are confronted with powerful questions:
What role will handmade art play in the future?
Is AI replacing artists — or becoming their newest tool?
Will the creative soul of an artist still be seen in brushstrokes, textures, and the human touch?
Through the theme “Hand vs. Machine: Who Paints the Future?”, we invite students to explore this evolving relationship between AI and traditional art. This is not a debate of superiority, but a creative dialogue — one that embraces the potential of technology while celebrating the timeless value of handmade art.
Your artwork can be landscape, figurative, conceptual, or narrative — as long as it showcases your drawing and painting abilities while staying relevant to the core theme.
Generate an AI-based Reference Image using any AI art tool (like DALL·E, Midjourney, Bing Image Creator, etc.). The AI image must be based on your chosen idea and will be used only as a reference for your handmade painting.
The goal is to reinterpret or transform the digital vision into a meaningful hand-painted artwork — reflecting your skill, understanding, and artistic interpretation.
Take a coloured A4 size print of the AI-generated artwork. Mount it neatly on a cardboard sheet, like a handmade photo frame, for display alongside your final painting.
Both artworks must visually and conceptually connect, based on the same idea and theme.
Participants must submit the following at the time of the event:
Note: The purpose of this competition is not to undermine or diminish AI-generated work. Rather, it is to reflect on how traditional painting and new-age technology can interact, co-exist, and challenge each other — all while celebrating the skill and emotion of human-made art.
