Shalom Presidency School organised a POCSO Act Awareness Workshop for its staff members on Saturday, 17 January 2026, as part of its ongoing commitment to child safety and wellbeing. The session was conducted by Advocate Aditi Jain, a legal professional and trainer who works closely with NGOs, schools, and corporate organisations.
The workshop focused on creating awareness about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, highlighting its gender-neutral nature and applicability to all children below 18 years of age. Participants were sensitised to the scope of the Act, which includes offences such as sexual assault, sexual harassment, and child pornography, and applies to all individuals within the school premises, including teaching and non-teaching staff, security personnel, volunteers, and visitors.
The session also addressed the identification of early warning signs of abuse, common misconceptions, and the importance of mandatory reporting. The reporting protocol was clearly outlined, emphasising calm listening, factual documentation, reassurance to the child, and immediate reporting to the concerned authorities. Staff members were reminded that failure to report a POCSO-related offence is punishable under the law.
The workshop concluded with a strong emphasis on the collective responsibility of schools to maintain a safe, supportive, and child-friendly environment through awareness, counselling support, and strict adherence to POCSO guidelines.
