Shalom Presidency School conducted an enriching Reading Enrichment
Workshop on 4 July 2026 in the Conference Hall. The session,
led by renowned author and educator Vikramjit Singh Rooprai, inspired
teachers to cultivate a strong reading culture among students while promoting a
healthy balance between reading and technology.
The workshop highlighted the transformative power of reading in
enhancing imagination, concentration, creativity, and critical thinking. Emphasising
the importance of reducing excessive screen time, the speaker explained how
regular reading contributes to the holistic development of children, while
prolonged screen exposure can adversely affect their physical and mental
well-being.
Mr Rooprai also shared practical classroom strategies to make reading
engaging through interactive activities, meaningful discussions, and
thoughtfully designed lesson plans. His personal journey—from researching the
origin of his own name to exploring India's rich history, the Indus Valley Civilisation,
science, and culture—served as a powerful reminder that curiosity is the
foundation of lifelong learning.
The session further encouraged educators to adopt healthy daily habits,
such as limiting screen time before bedtime, beginning the day with positive
activities, and inspiring students to appreciate India's rich heritage and the
wisdom embedded in its traditions.
The workshop concluded on an inspiring note, motivating teachers to
become lifelong readers themselves and to nurture the same passion for reading
in their students. It was an insightful and thought-provoking session that
reaffirmed the enduring value of books in shaping informed, curious, and
responsible learners.
