Shalom Presidency School organised an Inter-House Millet Activity for students of Grades VI to VIII on 21 July 2026 in the Middle Wing Classrooms on the theme "Millet – The Grain of Goodness." The activity aimed to raise awareness of the nutritional value of millets and encourage students to adopt healthier, more sustainable eating habits.
Students from all the houses participated
enthusiastically, presenting an impressive variety of millet-based dishes
representing different states of India. The gallery walk showcased traditional
delicacies such as Ragi Mudde from Karnataka, Bajra Roti from Rajasthan, Jowar
Bhakri from Maharashtra, and Foxtail Millet Pongal from Tamil Nadu, reflecting
India's rich culinary heritage and the versatility of millets.
During their presentations, students highlighted the numerous health benefits of these ancient grains, explaining that millets are rich in fibre, protein, iron, and calcium, are naturally gluten-free, aid digestion, help manage diabetes, and strengthen overall immunity.
The activity also featured a segment on quick and easy millet recipes, including millet chilla, millet upma, and millet ladoo, inspiring students to incorporate these nutritious grains into their daily diets. Informative, interactive, and visually appealing, the event provided an excellent platform for experiential learning while reinforcing the importance of returning to traditional "super grains" for a healthier future.
The activity concluded with words of
appreciation from the teachers and judges, who commended the students for their
creativity, confident presentations, teamwork, and dedication, making the event
a resounding success.
